On 9 August 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited Surin Province with H.E. Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, serving as Acting Prime Minister, to inspect Phanom Dong Rak Chalerm Phra Kiat 80th Anniversary Hospital, located over 10 kilometers from the Cambodian border, which sustained damage following an attack by Cambodian armed forces with heavy artillery, resulting in civilian deaths, injuries, and structural damage. The Foreign Minister also visited Phanom Dong Rak Wittaya School to meet and express support for approximately 300 local residents. He also presented a donation of Village Security Volunteer uniforms, and received a situation briefing from the District chief.

This visit aimed not only to offer moral support to frontline officers and civilians affected by the Thai-Cambodian border situation, but also to gather further information regarding the use of landmines by Cambodian military forces, which constitutes violations of international humanitarian law (IHL) and the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Convention). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has consistently condemned and protested this recent use of landmines and attacks on civilian targets in various international fora.
