On 3 June 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a discussion with H.E. Mr. Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the OECD, in prior to and during a working dinner between the OECD Secretary-General and Foreign Ministers from OECD Accession Countries in Paris. This discussion is the 4th meeting between the two sides in a year.
The Foreign Minister informed about the progress of Thailand’s OECD accession process and stressed the commitment for accession by 2030. Thailand will submit the Initial Memorandum (IM) in 2025, which is an important development towards the accession. In this connection, Thailand hopes to learn from the OECD countries through capacity-building and for the transforming process to complement the internal coordinating mechanism towards the country’s alignment with the OECD standards, as well as enhance relations with the OECD countries and strengthen multilateral cooperation within the OECD. The Secretary-General confirmed appreciation to jointly plan capacity-building programmes to support Thailand’s implementation in major areas. He also agreed that Thailand’s accession process will make the country more resilient and inclusive in addressing international uncertainties.
Other OECD Accession Countries besides Thailand are Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Peru, Brazil, Argentina and Indonesia.
