On 23 September 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the High-Level Meeting on Climate Action and the Just Transition in New York, United States, on the occasion of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Thailand recognized the importance of the energy transition and acknowledged that the transition is not easy. If not properly managed, it could lead to energy insecurity. Therefore, the energy transition should focus on building an efficient energy system with diverse energy sources and resilience to changing circumstances. This should be achieved through increasing clean energy generation, developing power grids and energy storage systems, improving energy efficiency, mobilizing accessible financing, and ensuring that the energy transition creates industries and jobs and strengthens market competitiveness.

Examples of measures taken by Thailand on energy transition are such as the promotion of investment in green projects and use of green energy through tax incentives and the allocation of budget for energy transition plans. Thailand places importance on regional cooperation, in particular the development of ASEAN power grid to strengthen energy security in the South-East Asian region.
