Darjeeling, during 31 March - 1 April 2025, in a continued effort to ensure the well-being and academic success of Thai students studying in Eastern India, Ms. Siriporn Tantipanyathep, Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata, along with Phrakrupalad Bodhivongworrarat, Chief Abbot of the Thai temple in Darjeeling – Wat Thairachaduta 609, held collaborative meetings with the principals of 4 prestigious boarding schools in Darjeeling; namely, (1) Himali Boarding School (2) St. Paul’s School (3) St. Joseph North Point School, and (4) Mount Hermon School, where approximately 100 students from primary to high school levels are currently enrolled.

The meetings aimed to enhance collaboration between the Consulate-General and the schools to ensure Thai students receive not only a top-tier education but also the emotional and social support they need while far from home. As part of Thailand’s ‘Diplomacy for People’ initiative, the Consulate-General reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the students’ academic and personal growth, while staying connected to their cultural heritage.

Consul-General Siriporn also emphasized the importance of creating a safe and nurturing environment where Thai students can thrive, thus deepening the enduring bond of friendship between Thailand and India and promoting people-to-people connections.

During the visits, Consul-General Siriporn warmly met with the Thai students, learning about their experiences at their respective schools. The Thai students expressed a strong sense of belonging and appreciation for the support they receive from their teachers and fellow Thai students. However, some students shared feelings of homesickness and a longing for traditional Thai food. In response, the Consul-General generously provided fish sauces, dried food and ingredients for cooking Thai dishes to the schools, offering a comforting taste of home.
