On 17 September 2026, Ms. Jaithai Upakarnitikaset, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed a delegation of Lao PDR journalists and other government representatives working with media led by Mr. Somsavath Phongsa, Director-General of the Media Department, Commission for Information and Education of the Central Committee of Lao PDR, and Mr. Somkhit Vankham, Director-General of the Press Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, on the occasion of their visit to Thailand, facilitated by the Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane.

Both sides exchanged views on strategic communications, promoting the Foreign Ministry’s missions, approaches to combatting fake news and reaching wider audiences, and coordinating with local and foreign media to disseminate accurate information in a timely manner. The delegation also visited the Department of Information’s studio and press conference room to further their exchange of experiences in communication with the general public.

The Director-General stressed that the Ministry prioritizes promoting greater exchanges between Thai journalists and their counterparts in the Lao PDR and neighbouring countries, as well as strengthening relations between the Ministry and media outlets in neighbouring countries.
