On 29 May 2025, the Ministry organized a reception on the occasion of the launch of the re-election of Thailand’s candidate, Judge Kriangsak Kittichaisaree, to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) for the term 2026-2035. H.E. Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Secretary to the Minister, welcomed distinguished guests from various diplomatic missions of Member States of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The Secretary to the Minister emphasized the importance of effective, fair, and sustainable governance and the use of maritime spaces in accordance with international law and for the benefit of all humankind. He also expressed his utmost confidence for Judge Kittichaisaree who demonstrated independence, integrity, and impartiality in his work throughout his tenure as a judge of ITLOS since 2017. Judge Kriangsak also shared his vision regarding the role of ITLOS judges, particularly on issues related to climate change, such as sea-level rise and various aspects of maritime governance, including fisheries management. He emphasized his commitment to applying his knowledge and expertise to upholding the rule of law of the sea, including addressing current and emerging challenges for the benefit of present and future generations.

The election of judges to ITLOS will be done by voting during the thirty-sixth Meeting of States to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in June 2026 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
