On 4 September 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Lisbon collaborated with the Committee of MOTELX (Festival Internacional de Cinema de Terror de Lisboa) to organize the premier screening of a Thai film “Morte Cucina” (ครัวสาว) in the 20th Edition of MOTELX Festival. Morte Cucina, directed by acclaimed Thai filmmaker Pen-ek Ratanaruang, captivated the Portuguese audience while offering a glimpse into richness of Thai renowned culinary heritage.

This year also marks a milestone of Thai cinema in Portugal as it is the first time that the MOTELX features two Thai films in the same edition. Additionally the Program includes “GOD SKIN” (หมัดเทวา ท้าเดิมพัน) directed by renown Thai film director Paween Purijitpanya. GOD SKIN reimagines Thai action for a new generation, blending authentic Muay Thai combat with fantasy mythology and striking cyberpunk aesthetics.

In his regard, Mrs. Kanokwan Pengsuwan, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand and Mr. Pedro Souto, Festival Director, also welcomed the audience who shared interest in Thai films.

The Embassy also took this opportunity to offer the audience a glimpse of Thailand beyond the screen. Before the screening, guests enjoyed a cocktail reception featuring a selection of authentic Thai cuisine and traditional herbal beverages, providing them with a taste of Thailand’s culinary heritage and warm hospitality.

Screening of these two distinctive films reflects the remarkable potential of diversity of Thai film industry which continues to offer the international audiences a wide range of cinema experiences. The continued presence of Thai films at the MOTELX provides a platform for showcasing Thailand’s creative industry, culture and contemporary storytelling to international audiences and enhance cultural ties between Thailand and Portugal.
