On 9-10 February 2023, The Honourable Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and spouse undertook an Official Visit to the Kingdom of Thailand as Guests of the Royal Thai Government.

On 9 February 2023, the Prime Minister of Malaysia attended the official welcoming ceremony at the Government House, where he and His Excellency General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, held a bilateral meeting. Key issues discussed between the two Prime Ministers included the enhancement of connectivities between the two countries, the development of the common border area, the intensification of economic cooperation such as in the fields of energy, food security and halal industry, and the promotion of peace and security in the Southern Border Provinces (SBPs) of Thailand. They also discussed regional issues and jointly reaffirmed the importance of ASEAN centrality. Moreover, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the exchanges of 4 Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between agencies of both countries to strengthen cooperation in the areas of energy and digital economy. On this occasion, Associate Professor Naraporn Chan-o-cha, spouse of the Prime Minister of Thailand, accompanied Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah binti Wan Ismail, spouse of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, on a visit to the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD), a regional center on capacity building and development for persons with disabilities. Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan has a keen interest in social work, including the assistance provided to disabled and disadvantaged persons.

On 10 February 2023, the Prime Minister of Malaysia attended a business event with leading Thai and Malaysian private sectors to further enhance the two countries’ economic cooperation.

The Official Visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Thailand was part of his introductory tour to ASEAN countries since his assumption of office on 24 November 2022. During this visit, the Prime Minister of Malaysia was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Home Affairs, and the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change of Malaysia as well as many senior officials.
