On 30 July 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Organization of Migration (IOM) Thailand, as well as Social Lab - Migration in Media (collaboration between Mahidol University, Chulalongkorn University, and Hanyang University, the Republic of Korea) co-organised an Ethical Migration Journalism Grant And Study Visit Wrap-Up Event at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand. The event served as a platform for exchanging views on news reporting related to migration issues and aimed to promote positive perception towards migrants.

Mrs. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information, welcomed the participants and highlighted the role of Thailand as a country of origin, transit, and destination for migrants. Migrants are an integral part of driving Thailand’s economy and society. However, the dissemination of negative and distorted information about migrants still persists and has become an increasingly sensitive issue amid tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border. Therefore, accurate, transparent, and unbiased reporting on migrants—while respecting human dignity—is of utmost importance. Meanwhile, Ms. Géraldine Ansart, Chief of IOM Thailand, emphasised the importance of fostering positive perception towards migrants, and commended Thailand for supporting reporting on migration issues, in line with the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM)

This seminar is part of a joint project on “Promoting Evidence-based Migration Discourse and Media Reporting” under the cooperation between the Ministry and IOM Thailand.
