Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed ways to promote peaceful coexistence in multicultural societies with Secretary-General of the Muslim World League during his official visit. The Secretary-General also expressed appreciation to Thailand as a role model for peaceful multicutural society.

On 14 February 2022, H.E. Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL), paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs during his official visit to Thailand as Guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand welcomed the Secretary-General of the MWL, and stated that his official visit was an opportune time for the two sides to exchange views on ways and means to promote and strengthen cooperation on multicultural society and peaceful coexistence of people of different faiths and civilizations worldwide. He also highlighted the long history of the Thai multiculturalism.

The Secretary-General of the MWL expressed his appreciation to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs for the warm welcome, and stated his impression on the multicultural society of Thailand where people of different cultures and religions have co-existed peacefully. The Secretary-General of the MWL also expressed appreciation to the government’s policy which aims to promote interfaith dialogues, freedom of religions as well as harmony in the society. He added that Thai people, regardless of their races or religions, have lived together peacefully with the respect to law and the sharing mindset, which must have been cultivated over a long period of time. The Secretary-General of the MWL would like to use Thailand as a role model for the Muslim World League to study and adapt in order to promote peace and reconciliation in international fora. After the courtesy call, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs hosted a luncheon in honour of the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, during which the two sides further discussed issues of common interests.

The Muslim World League is an International non-governmental Islamic organisation, based in Mecca, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was established on 18 May 1962 by the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It aims to present the true Islam and its tolerant principles, provides humanitarian aid, extends bridges of dialogue and cooperation with all, engages in positive openness to all cultures and civilizations, and follows the path of centrism and moderation to realise the message of Islam while warding off movements calling for extremism, violence and exclusion for a world full of peace, justice and coexistence. The previous Secretary-General of the Muslim World League visited Thailand twice in 2007 and 2012.
