On 18 April 2026, H.E. Mr. Psusist Wongsurawat, Consul-General of Thailand in Penang, presided over the Opening Ceremony of the “2IN1 International Artists in Residency” Exhibition at the O Sculpture Art Space as Guest of Honour and delivered the Opening Remarks, commending the two Thai artists’ inspiration for combining Thai traditions, cultures and folklores with the cultural diversity of Penang in their sculptures, which showcase a very Intriguing side of the soft power of Thailand in Penang. Furthermore, Consul - General of Thailand also wished the two artists to learn and experience the shared culture between Thailand and Penang during their time as the artists in residency.

In the event, Khanom Chin or thin white rice noodles with fish curry sauce made from local ingredients in Penang was served to the guests in a bowl made from Penang’s clay and painted with the image of Thailand’s Phataem National Park. The activity showcased the combination of Thai and Penang arts and provided the opportunity for the guests to learn more about the similar and shared cultures between Thailand and Penang.

International Artists in Residency is a project hosted by Mr. Low Chee Peng, a Malaysian sculpturer and the owner of the O Sculpture Art Space, who invited two Thai artists, Dr. Thanatcha Chairin and Mr. Surasit Mankhong, to join the project between 3-20 April 2026. While staying in Penang, the two artists used objects they have found around Penang to create the sculptures, which were inspired by the combination of Thai and Penang’s cultures, traditions and folklores. The arts both created in Penang and Thailand will exhibit at the O Sculpture Art Space between 18-26 April 2026 every Friday-Sunday from 10.00-18.00 hrs. Therefore, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Penang would like to invite Thai community in Penang and Penangites to visit the exhibition and admire the works of Thai artists.
