Thai Prime Minister discusses with the President of the Republic of Korea a three-cooperative partnership (3Ps) strategy, focusing on green economy, future industries, and health in the post-COVID-19 era
On 28 May 2021, H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, had a telephone conversation with H.E. Mr. Moon Jae-in, President of the Republic of Korea (ROK), to continue the momentum of the Thailand-ROK Strategic Partnership and advance bilateral cooperation, as well as express support for the ROK as host of the Second Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals 2030 or the Second P4G Summit, which the Thai Prime Minister will attend via live videoconference on 31 May 2021 at 20.00 - 21.30 hours (Thailand local time).
Prime Minister Prayut highlighted promoting cooperation through linking of the two countries' corresponding national development strategies, including with the ROK’s New Southern Policy (NSP) and New Southern Policy Plus (NSPS). He proposed strengthening Thailand-ROK strategic partnership in the post-COVID-19 era in three key areas, or 3 Partnerships (3Ps), namely, partnership for green economy, partnership for future industries and partnership for health.
Prime Minister Prayut emphasised the importance of developing green economy partnership by building upon the Thai government's implementation of the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model to achieve balanced and sustainable growth. Links could be identified between the BCG Model and the ROK’s Green New Deal.
Both leaders underlined the potential to develop partnership on future industries. The Thai Prime Minister invited the ROK side to invest in high-tech industries in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and proposed that the Office of EEC and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) work together to push forward for concrete cooperation. In addition, the two leaders agreed to promote health partnership, including through the early convening of the First ROK-Thailand Foreign and Health Ministers’ 2+2 Dialogue on Health Security and the conclusion of an Agreement on Health Cooperation to pave the way for furthering medical and health cooperation in the future.
Both leaders were pleased with close cooperation under sub-regional and regional frameworks. They exchanged views on regional and international issues, including developments in Myanmar and Korean Peninsula. Prime Minister Prayut also congratulated President Moon on the successful visit to the United States.
