On 28 January 2023, H.E. Ms. Vimolbajra Ruksakiati, Ambassador of Thailand to Norway, on the occasion of her attendance at the merit making ceremony on the occasion of New Year and Wai Kru Day or Teacher Appreciation Day of Thailand, arranged by the Thai-Norway Language and Cultural Association and Thailand NIE Learning Centre in Østfold, visited “Royal Thai Massasje” of Ms. Mayuri Johnsen at Lilleeng Health Park. Ambassador Vimolbajra tried the Thai Traditional Medicine Herbal massage (use herbal compressed ball) since Ambassador Vimolbajra has experienced leg muscle tightening as a result of skiing. Ambassador Vimolbajra felt much better after the massage therapy and highly recommended the treatment for those who are interested.
The Embassy is of the view that the Royal Thai Massaje exemplifies a good, ethical standard Thai massage parlor in Norway. The Embassy is in the process of working closely with the Thai community in Norway, namely the Thai Women Association in Norway, and with the cooperation of the Norwegian authorities concerned to come up with a mechanism to upgrade the standard of Thai massage parlors in Norway. The Embassy wishes to promote the Thai Traditional massage in Norway since it was developed from Thai traditional knowledge and is an alternative medicine therapy which has many health benefits for Thais and Norwegians alike.
On 12 December 2019, at the 14th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), held in Bogota, Colombia, the meeting agreed to add “Nuad Thai” or Traditional Thai Massage in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
