On 22 June 2023, H.E. Ms. Vimolbajra Ruksakiati, Ambassador of Thailand to Norway, hosted the Congratulatory and Farewell Dinner in honour of H.E. Mrs. Merete Fjeld Brattested, Director General of the Department of Multilateral Affairs, Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and her spouse, Mr. Syver Brattested, on the occasion of Director General Merete Fjeld Brattested’s upcoming assumption of position as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Norway to the United Nations in New York. Guests include members of her family and friends, including Mr. Petter-Børre Furberg, Executive Vice President of Telenor AS and his spouse, Ms. Grethe Drøpping, and Mr. Jens Heyerdahl, Former CEO of Orkla Industries, and Ms. Gunn Jorid Roset, Deputy Director General of the Department for Multilateral Affairs, Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Merete plays an important role in promoting the close and cordial bilateral relations between Thailand and Norway and is considered a Friend of Thailand in Norway. Ambassador Merete served her tenure at the Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok twice, in 1992 as a Second Secretary at that time when her eldest daughter, Maren, was born in Bangkok, and from 2005 to 2010 Ambassador Merete became the Ambassador of Norway to Thailand. Ambassador Merete and her family are very fond of Thailand, Thai people and Thai food.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Oslo wishes to extend our warmest congratulations to Ambassador Merete on this new important position and would like to express our appreciation for her kind cooperation to the Embassy for years. It is certain that Ambassador Merete’s new position as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Norway to the United Nations in New York will continue to contribute positively to the cooperation between Thailand and Norway in the context of multilateralism framework.
