Briefing on Thailand as APEC Chair for 2022 by the Ambassador of Thailand to Italy

On 21 December 2022, H.E. Ms. Rommanee Kananurak, Ambassador of Thailand to Italy gave a briefing on Thailand as APEC Chair for 2022 to students enrolling in Bachelor’s Degree in Global Governance (English language programme), the Department of Economics and Finance, University of Rome Tor Vergata.

Ambassador Kananurak highlighted the theme and priorities of Thailand’s APEC host year “Open. Connect. Balance.” which was set with an aim to drive Asia – Pacific towards sustainable and inclusive economic recovery. Thailand, as 2022 Host Economy, successfully achieved three key deliverables including (1) the Free Trade Area of the Asia – Pacific (FTAAP) Agenda Work Plan 2023 – 2026, (2) the Safe Passage Taskforce’s recommendation concerning safe and seamless resumption of cross-border travel, and (3) the adoption of the Bangkok Goals on Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy. Moreover, two outcome documents namely the 2022 APEC Leaders’ Declaration and Joint Ministerial Statement were adopted. These outcomes reflect the success of Thailand as a host of APEC 2022 in driving APEC to continue its work amidst the current challenging situations and maintain its importance as the region’s leading economic cooperation forum. The briefing was well-attended by approximately 100 students.

Established in 1982, the University of Roma Tor Vergata is a public university in Italy and ranked among the 500 best universities in the world in 2022. It hosts important research institutions such as the National Research Council and the Italian Space Agency. The Campus also hosts one of the most modern hospitals in Italy (University Hospital Tor Vergata).
