On 5–6 October 2026, Ms. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Piyapak Sricharoen, Director-General of the Department of East Asian Affairs, chaired preparatory meetings for the celebration of the 140th anniversary of the establishment of Thailand–Japan diplomatic relations in 2027. Representatives from government agencies, the private sector, and civil society participated in the meetings.

Participants exchanged information on activities planned to mark this special occasion, with a view to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Thailand and Japan across the economic, political, socio-cultural, and security dimensions, as well as promoting people-to-people exchanges.
