On 20 August 2025, Mr. Chettaphan Maksamphan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, presided over the Presentation Ceremony of the Royal Decoration, the Knight Grand Cross (First Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant. The said Royal Decoration was bestowed upon which Mr. Nashida Kazuya, former Ambassador of Japan to Thailand in recognition of his merit in strengthening ties of friendship and promoting cooperation between Thailand and Japan during his tenure.
Participants witnessing the ceremony in his honour included Mr. Chakkrid Krachaiwong, Director-General of the Department of Protocol, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, former Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, former Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and former Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, as well as Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, former Ambassador of Thailand to Japan. The Japanese side’s attendance were Mr. Nishioka Tatsushi, Minister, as a representative of the Embassy of Japan in Thailand, the Chairman of the Japanese Association in Thailand and the President of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Bangkok.
During his ambassadorship during 2020 - 2024, Ambassador Nashida Kazuya played a prominent role in promoting trade, investment and cooperation between the private sectors of both countries. He also contributed to the elevation of the Thai - Japanese relations into Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) which coincided with the 135th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Japan in 2022. Moreover, Ambassador Nashida consistently supported cultural exchanges by organizing various, remarkable events, some of which were in tribute to the Thai Royal Family. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ambassador Nashida also assisted with the procurement of vaccines for the Thai people.
