1. On 27 December 2025, Thai military personnel from the 12th Infantry Battalion stepped on an anti-personnel landmine laid by the Cambodian side in the Satthasom area, Si Sa Ket province, with one Thai soldier sustaining permanent disability.

2. Thailand expresses its sympathy to the injured soldier and his family, and condemns Cambodia’s continued use of anti-personnel landmines, which constitutes a violation of Thailand’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as obligations under the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Convention) to which Cambodia is a State Party.

3. This incident further underscores the importance and urgency of implementing the Joint Statement concerning the ceasefire signed by both sides at the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) between Thailand and Cambodia on the very same day of the incident, which includes key provisions on joint humanitarian demining operations to ensure the safety of military personnel and civilians in the border areas as soon as possible.

4. Thailand is sending a letter of protest to Cambodia and will continue to pursue this matter to the fullest extent within the framework of the Ottawa Convention. In this regard, Thailand calls upon Cambodia to immediately cease actions that violate the Convention and to cooperate in joint humanitarian demining efforts along the border in good faith, upholding the integrity of the Joint Statement of the GBC meeting, which both sides are obliged to respect and implement at the earliest.
