On 11 August 2026, Ms. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the 11th Japan - Thailand Political Partnership Consultations (JTPPC) with Mr. Namazu Hiroyuki, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting discussed advancing cooperation in the political, economic, people-to-people, regional, and subregional spheres, as well as exchanged views on regional developments. As Thailand and Japan will celebrate the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to promoting their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including through high-level exchanges and the Thailand - Japan High Level Joint Commission (HLJC), as well as advancing economic and security cooperation alongside deepening people-to-people ties, with a view to enhancing mutual competitiveness and exploring cooperation in new areas, which would serve as an important milestones for the future of Thailand - Japan relations amidst a volatile global environment.

The JTPPC meeting is one of the mechanisms for consultations on various areas of cooperation between Thailand and Japan, with the first meeting held in 2004 and co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs.
