On 5 February 2026, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, had a discussion with H.E. Mrs. Magdalini Nicolaou, Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Thailand, on the occasion of the latter’s assumption of duty.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of bilateral relations between Thailand and the Hellenic Republic. The Permanent Secretary congratulated the Ambassador on her appointment as the first female Hellenic Ambassador to Thailand and underscored the importance of promoting gender equality in diplomacy. She also commended the role of the Hellenic Republic as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2025 - 2026 term, reaffirming Thailand’s readiness to work closely with the Hellenic Republic to promote international rules and norms amid heightened geopolitical competition.

The Ambassador outlined priority areas for cooperation during her tenure, particularly in culture and tourism, which are strengths of both countries. The Permanent Secretary agreed and noted the potential benefits of resuming a direct flight between Bangkok and Athens to enhance people-to-people ties, as well as opportunities to advance concrete cooperation through the existing Thailand - Greece bilateral consultation mechanism.
