Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs discussed deepening ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

On 25 March 2022, H.E. Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, met with Ms. Katrina Cooper, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, as ASEAN SOM Leader of Australia, via videoconference. Both sides exchanged views on deepening ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and on regional and international issues.
Permanent Secretary proposed various areas of cooperation under the Australia for ASEAN Futures Initiative such as circular economy, connectivity, health security, and sustainable development. People-to-people ties should also be enhanced through education cooperation.
In addition, as the host of APEC this year, which coincides with the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Australia, Permanent Secretary looks forward to welcoming the Prime Minister of Australia and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia to Thailand.
