On 3 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, had a discussion with Honourable Arun Hemachandra, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment of Sri Lanka, during the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok.

The two sides exchanged views on Thailand - Sri Lanka relations, which have been connected through Buddhism for nearly 800 years, and this year also marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. In this connection, they reaffirmed their commitment to working closely together to strengthen relations across all dimensions, including trade and investment, the fishery sector, cultural exchanges, and Buddhist tourism. They also agreed to expedite the entry into force of the Thailand–Sri Lanka FTA.
