On 23 July 2024, Mr. Chakkrid Krachaiwong, Director-General of the Department of Protocol, chaired a seminar on the practices of Diplomatic Privilege and Immunity for diplomatic same-sex spouses in Thailand.

The seminar was organized in preparation for the implementation of legal practices in compliance with the upcoming same-sex spouses’ regulations and was attended by representatives from various government agencies. Thailand will become the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. The seminar focused on the legalization process of same-sex marriage in Thailand and the anticipated timeframe of a transition of diplomatic privilege, immunity practices and regulations that will comply with the new same-sex marriage act for diplomatic same-sex spouses in Thailand.
