Seminar on “Reduction of Foreign Aid and Its Impact on Assistance for Displaced Persons Population in Thailand”

On 9 June 2025, Department of International Organizations and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Thailand co-hosted a seminar on “Reduction of Foreign Aid and Its Impact on Assistance for Displaced Persons Population in Thailand”. The seminar featured panelists from, and was attended by, stakeholders, including representatives from government agencies, international organizations, and civil society organizations. The seminar was also attended by representatives from countries that provide support to displaced persons.

The objective of the seminar is to exchange information and views, and to share recommendations on the impact of reduction of foreign aid on various groups of displaced persons in Thailand, particularly the Myanmar Displaced Persons (MDPs) in 9 temporary shelters along Thailand-Myanmar border and irregular migrants in urban setting.

Ms. Tammi Lynn Sharpe, Representative of UNHCR in Thailand gave an opening remarks and Mr. Phuchphop Mongkolnavin, Deputy-Director General of the Department of International Organizations delivered his reflection and closing remarks. He reaffirmed Thailand’s commitments in looking after, providing assistance, and exploring durable solutions for groups of displaced population in Thailand amid the changing global landscape, and at the same time, called on international community to maintain their continued support for the groups, particularly during the transition period, in line with the principle of burden and responsibility sharing.
