On 6 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the ROK, held a meeting with Thai and Korean business leaders and community representatives to discuss the establishment of the Thailand–ROK Business and Friendship Council. The initiative aims to serve as a platform for strengthening cooperation and building networks among the business sectors and communities of the two countries.

The establishment of the Council has three main objectives:
1. To promote cooperation in business, trade, and investment between Thailand and the ROK, particularly opportunities for Thai businesses in the Korean market.
2. To foster Thailand – ROK relations and friendship, particularly at the people-to-people level.
3. To strengthen the Thai community and support public-benefit activities in both Thailand and the ROK.

The meeting agreed that, during its initial phase, the Thailand–ROK Business and Friendship Council should focus on building networks and promoting cooperation in eight key business sectors, namely:
(1) Thai restaurants and food-processing industries
(2) Retail, wholesale, and import–export businesses
(3) Start-ups
(4) Energy
(5) Thai massage businesses
(6) Education
(7) Tourism
(8) Agriculture

As an initial step, Ms. Malliga Peamsirimongkol (Wanda) has been appointed Acting Chairperson of the Thailand–Korea Business and Friendship Council. The Council plans to proceed with its formal registration and the drafting of its regulations or constitution, which will set out its organisational structure, roles, responsibilities, and operational framework.

The Ambassador provided advice and expressed his full readiness to support the Council’s initiatives and activities. He emphasised that the Council could serve as an important platform for connecting the business sectors, communities, and people of Thailand and the ROK, while creating greater opportunities for economic cooperation and investment and contributing to the continued strength and sustainable development of the Thai community in the ROK.
