On 14 May 2025, Ambassador Arunrung Phothong Humphreys, together with Ms. Pittara Navarat, Minister Counsellor, and Mr. Artsith Katawetawakars, Counsellor, welcomed the delegation from the House of Representatives' Committee on Labour. The delegation was led by Mr. Saritpong Kiewkong, Chairman of the Committee, along with the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Vice-Chairpersons, as well as committee members and advisors. The committee was on a study visit and business negotiation trip to Sweden and Finland between 12-14 May 2025.
On this occasion, the Royal Thai Embassy held a meeting and exchanged views with the Committee regarding the protection of the interests and well-being of Thai workers abroad, aiming at assurance of basic rights for workers, leading to working abroad with dignity, with particular focus on Thai berry pickers in Sweden. The Committee presented information and reflection of the perspectives of Thai workers in Thailand regarding working overseas. The Embassy, in turn, shared information about its operations in protection of interests of Thai nationals, including coordination with relevant Swedish agencies on this matter.
Furthermore, on the same day, the Royal Thai Embassy also held a meeting and exchanged views between the Embassy, the Committee, and representatives from two relevant agencies directly involved in the care of Thai berry pickers in Sweden at the Embassy. The meeting included exchanges of statistical data and information regarding measures to ensure the conformity of employments to relevant local laws, to protect the rights and well-being of workers.
