On 24 April 2025, Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), in collaboration with the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, organized a study visit for a high-level delegation from 7 Pacific Island countries—namely the Cook Islands, Fiji, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu under the Thailand – Pacific Island Countries Forum (TPIF) at (1) Wastewater Management Authority in Lam Pho Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Nonthaburi Province, and (2) Khlong Prem Prachakorn Baan Mankong Housing Project in Bangkok.

The visit took place on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), held under the theme “Regional Cooperation for Resilient and Sustainable Urban Development in Asia and the Pacific.” Also in attendance were H.E. Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary, and H.E. Mr. Krai Mahasandana, Ambassador attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation reflected on how to apply what they have learnt to their own countries in the local context. They also recognized Thailand’s best practice in wastewater management and housing development based on a community-led approach, which are integral parts of urban development and enhancing the population’s well-being, as a role model for Asia and the Pacific. The initiatives are in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and 17 (Partnership for Goals).
