On 20 April 2026, Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, participated in the launch event of the European Union programme to support the Myanmar Displaced Persons (MDPs), organized under the theme “Supporting Thailand’s Transition to Self-Reliance & Inclusion: Preparing Myanmar Displaced Persons for an Inclusive Future,” held at the Grand Centre Point Ploenchit Hotel. The event was attended by representatives from relevant government agencies, international organizations, civil society organizations, and diplomatic missions of countries supporting MDPs in the temporary shelters.
The Director-General delivered opening remarks together with Mrs. Luisa Ragher, Ambassador of the European Union to Thailand, and an MDP representative. She expressed appreciation for the European Union’s long-standing support for Myanmar Displaced Persons and for the decision to increase its programme’s funding from 12 million euros to 15 million euros for 2026 to 2028. The European Union’s continued support has helped to make a difference to the lives of the MDPs in many aspects, especially health and education, allowing them to live their lives with dignity.
The Director-General also shared that the National Security Council of Thailand is currently developing a roadmap to comprehensively address the situation of the MDPs by enabling them to be self-reliant, in line with the policy that allows the MDPs to work outside the temporary shelters. She underscored the Royal Thai Government’s readiness to collaborate with the EU and interested countries in advancing the said roadmap.
