Thai Delegation deepens cooperation with Singapore and Indonesia in tackling air pollution and transboundary haze

On 26-28 August 2025, Mr. Bolbongse Vangphaen, Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, led a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Department of ASEAN Affairs, the Department of East Asian Affairs and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Finance to Singapore and Indonesia to discuss strengthening cooperation under the CLEAR Sky Strategy, which is a trilateral cooperation between Thailand, Lao PDR, and Myanmar, with a view to making tangible progress in addressing air pollution and transboundary haze in the Mekong sub-region and ASEAN.

The delegation exchanged views and experiences with Singapore and Indonesia on green innovation, law enforcement, and carbon markets. In Singapore, the delegation met with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Meteorological Service, as well as the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre. In Indonesia, the delegation met with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Environment and Environmental Control Agency and the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), as well as the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Transboundary Haze Pollution Control (ACC THPC).

The visit is part of follow-up efforts to the implementation of the trilateral Joint Plan of Action – CLEAR Sky Strategy launched on 29 October 2024. Earlier on 23 - 25 July 2025, the Department of ASEAN Affairs organised a study visit to Beijing for Thai agencies to strengthen cooperation with China to support the CLEAR Sky Strategy.
