On 22 August 2025, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations in New York sent a letter to the United Nations Secretary-General to provide further information regarding Cambodia’s use of anti-personnel landmines on Thailand’s territory. The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand is due to meet the Secretary-General on 28 August 2025 to discuss the matter in detail as well as to provide the latest update on the border situation between Thailand and Cambodia.

Thailand exercises its relentless efforts to address this serious matter with transparency and in full compliance with its obligations under the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention or the Ottawa Convention. The clarification was submitted to give a comprehensive understanding of the situation based on empirical evidence.

As State Party to the Ottawa Convention, Thailand is deeply committed to a mine-free world. It continues to voice its grave concern over any use of these indiscriminate weapons, which pose a severe and lasting threat to human life, hinder border development, and undermine regional stability.

The Royal Thai Government remains steadfast in its commitment to resolving the Thailand-Cambodia border clashes through peaceful and diplomatic channels in accordance with international law and upholds its duty to ensure border security and the security of our citizens.
