On 22 April 2026, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Special Envoy of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the 6th Thailand-Pacific Island Countries Forum (TPIF) and hosted a welcoming dinner for the delegations from the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Secretariat and 8 Pacific Island Countries (PICs), namely Fiji, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu.
Discussions focused on (1) strengthening cooperation between PIF and Thailand, as a PIF Dialogue Partner, particularly on human resources development; (2) expanding medical cooperation, building on projects in Samoa and Tonga to other PICs; (3) promoting short- and long-term scholarships offered by Thailand International Cooperation Agency, MFA; and (4) enhancing potential cooperation in areas such as connectivity, tourism, transnational crimes, and climate change.
Subsequently, on 23 April 2026, the Ministry organised a study visit to the Asia-Pacific Development Centre on Disability (APCD) to showcase Thailand’s development efforts towards the elevation and inclusion of persons with disability in society, as well as to discuss opportunities for expanding cooperation on disability empowerment with the PICs. The TPIF, established by Thailand in 2014, serves as a platform to demonstrate Thailand’s proactive engagement with the PICs, advance its role on the international arena, and enhance South-South cooperation.
