On 23 September 2026, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, delivered a statement at the High-Level Segment of the United Nations General Assembly to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development in New York. The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to promote and protect the right to development. She also emphasized that development is not only about economic growth, but it is also about ensuring that all people can participate in and benefit from sustainable and inclusive development.

The Permanent Secretary presented Thailand’s vision for the way forward on the right to development. This includes placing people at the center of development by promoting equality and inclusion, as well as strengthening international cooperation to address major global challenges such as climate change, public health risks, economic vulnerabilities and the growing digital divide. The Permanent Secretary also emphasized revitalizing the United Nations and strengthening global governance to support sustainable development and restore confidence in multilateral cooperation. This includes through regional efforts such as ASEAN, in achieving sustainable, inclusive and people-centered development.
