On 11 November 2025, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government, presented a financial contribution of 100,000 USD to Mr. Jürg Montani, Head of Regional Delegation, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Bangkok. The contribution aims to support humanitarian assistance and relieve the impacts of the earthquake in Afghanistan on 31 August 2025, which resulted in more than 1,500 casualties.

The Vice Foreign Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to cooperating with the international community to address humanitarian challenges worldwide. In the past, Thailand has consistently provided humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, particularly in response to natural disasters, such as the landslide in 2014, the earthquakes in 2022 and 2023, and the flash flood in 2024.

The Head of the ICRC Regional Delegation in Bangkok expressed appreciation for Thailand’s exceptional role in supporting the ICRC on humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan, considering that Thailand does not share close geographical proximity with the country. He added that the Thai Government’s contribution will further strengthen the ICRC’s capacity in addressing the humanitarian need on the ground.
