On 29 January 2026, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed and held discussions with Congressman Michael Dennis Rogers (R-AL), Chairman of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, together with Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Salud Carbajal (D-CA), and Congressman Jimmy Patronis (R-FL), during their visit to Thailand from 28 - 30 January 2026.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of Thailand - U.S. relations. The Vice Foreign Minister underscored the treaty alliance in security and the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries across a wide range of areas, including defence and security, economic cooperation, and education. The U.S. side reiterated the importance it places on the Indo-Pacific region and its commitment to further strengthening cooperation with longstanding allies such as Thailand. They discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly law enforcement and combating online scams, which have adversely affected the people of both countries and remain a shared priority. In addition, both sides discussed economic partnership, issues related to U.S. reciprocal tariffs, opportunities for future cooperation including the potential resumption of direct flights between Thailand and the U.S., as well as exchanged views on key regional developments, including the situation in Myanmar.

Following the discussion, the Vice Minister hosted a working lunch, which was also attended by executives from the Thai private sector with investments in the U.S.
