The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs enhanced Thai – Belgian relations through new Joint Plan of Action, promotion of trade and investment in health and wellness, smart logistics, digital cooperation , consular cooperation, and the negotiations of the Thai-EU FTA, during a courtesy call by the Ambassador of Belgium to Thailand.

On 22 February 2021, Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, welcomed H.E. Ms. Sibille de Cartier d’Yves, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Kingdom of Thailand, during a courtesy call.

Both sides discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation through a new Joint Plan of Action and the holding of the 2nd Policy Consultations. He also encouraged more trade and investment from Belgium in the fields of health and wellness, smart logistics and digital cooperation, in particular in Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). Other issues discussed including consular cooperation, especially the protection of Thai nationals in Belgium and Belgian nationals in Thailand during the COVID-19 pandemic and the exchange of views on regional issues.

Both sides also stressed the importance of the negotiations of Thai-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and Partnership and Comprehensive Agreement (PCA), which would enhance trade and investment relations between Thailand and Belgium.
