On 24 September 2011, on the sidelines of the 66th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul attended the Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (IAMM) to discuss and exchange views on several issues of ASEAN and UN common interests as well as to prepare for the Meeting between the ASEAN Ministers and the UN Secretary-General and President of the 66th Session of the UNGA to be held on 27 September 2011. In this connection, Foreign Minister was asked by the IAMM to be the lead speaker together with the UN Secretary-General on the peacekeeping issue.
