On 22 June 2012, H.E. Mr. Poldej Worachat, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka paid a courtesy call on Mr. H.P. Cashin Herath, Secretary of the Ministry of Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs of Sri Lanka.

Ambassador Worachat and Secretary Herath exchanged views and stressed the close and cordial relations between Thailand and Sri Lanka based on religious and cultural similarities between the two countries since the majority of the population in both countries is Theravada Buddhists. As 2013 marks the 260th anniversary of the establishment of Siam Nikaya in Sri Lanka, the two parties discussed about possible programmes and activities to celebrate this important occasion to strengthen the religious ties between the two countries.
