On 18 December 2012 H.E. Mr. Somchai Charanasomboon, Ambassador of Thailand to Sweden, and Thai officials from the Royal Thai Embassy travelled to Kolmårdens Djurpark in Norrköping to visit two Thai elephants which were presented as royal gifts from His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand to His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden on 7 April 2004.

Both elephants are in good health and are in good care of by the zoo.  They can communicate well with the mahouts and are well-adapted to the cold weather in Sweden.  Both elephants have undergone artificial insemination. Bua, 15 years old, is now pregnant and is expected to deliver in September 2013 while Sao Noi, 16 years old, is not pregnant.

Kolmårdens Djurpark is the largest zoo in Europe and is one of the most visited touristic attractions in Sweden especially renowned for its dolphin show.  The zoo has more than 750 animals from 76 different species and is visited by more than 550,000 people each year.
