Due to recent developments on the Korean Peninsula, which have led to concerns of the approximately 43,000 Thai nationals, whether tourists or residents/workers, in the Republic of Korea (South Korea), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform as follows:
1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has closely coordinated with the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul which can be summarized below:
1.1. The overall situation and daily lives of the general populace remain normal. There have been no official alerts or warnings from the Government of the Republic of Korea in any form.
1.2. Inbound and outbound flights operate as normal, and there have been no announcements of any flight cancellations, including between Thailand and the Republic of Korea.
2. Presently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is continuing to closely monitor the situation on the Korean Peninsula. In this regard, in the event of any developments that may affect the safety and security of the general populace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will consider taking appropriate measures in due course.
3. The Royal Thai Government reiterates its concern for the political face-off on the Korean Peninsula, which invariably affects the stability of the region as a whole, and calls upon the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) to heed the concerns of the international community by halting its nuclear weapons programme and ceasing all provocative actions. In addition, Thailand calls upon all parties concerned to exercise tolerance, restraint and patience, and discuss their grievances through diplomatic channels. Thailand and ASEAN stand ready to fully support this endeavour.
