On 23 June 2013, H.E. Mr. PisanuSuvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar, handed humanitarian support, both in cash and in kind, to the Mitta Parahita Centre for the Leprosy at Mayan Chaung Village, in HleGuTownship, Yangon Region. This charity event was co-sponsored by the Myanmar Red Cross Society, the National Blood Centre, and the Sky Net.
Among the donated items aredried food, items for personal hygiene, blankets, water purifiers and kettles, books and reading glasses, TV set and Sky Net satellite dishes, and a motorcycle to provide convenient access to town. These items would help improve the living condition and the quality of life of the residents at the Centre. More importantly, the visit helped cheer up the residents and provided moral support to them, most of whom are the elders.
Thanks to the Sky Net, the media crew interviewed the doctor, a volunteer, and residents for a TV programme to raise awareness about the Centre and to encourage more support from the general public since the Centre is situated in isolated location though not far from the heart of Yangon and lack sufficient funding.
