On 27 July 2013 Dr. ChaiyongSatjipanon, Ambassador of Thailand to the United States of America, together with officials of the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington DC, attended the 24th Annual Reunion of the Descendants of the Original Siamese Twins at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Mount Airy, North Carolina. The event was also attended by high-level representatives of the City of Mount Airy and the Surry County, including Ms. Deborah Cochran, Mayor of Mount Airy, Ms. Shirley Brinkley, Commissioner of the City of Mount Airy, Mr. Eddie Harris, Chairman of the Surry County Board Commissioner as well as Mr. Larry Phillips, Commissioner of the Surry County. On this occasion, the Embassy also organized an exhibition about Thai-U.S. relations, which was well-received by the people attending the reunion including more than 250 descendants of Eng and Chang Family. The participation of the Embassy in this reunion is aimed not only to raise awareness of Eng and Chang as part of the history of Thai-U.S. relations, but also considered as part of a series of activities to jointly celebrate the auspicious occasion of the 180th anniversary of the Thai-U.S. diplomatic relations this year.
