On 26 April 2014, the Royal Thai Embassy held the Thai New Year Festival or “Songkran” at the Thai Residence in Mexico. The event was attended by about 160 guests, which included the Thai community in Mexico, Thai exchange students, former Mexican exchange students and fellowship recipients to Thailand, and Mexican Friends of Thailand.
Ambassador ChirachaiPunkrasin and his wife presided over the water-pouring ceremony or “Rod Nam Dam Hua” where Thais and Mexicans alike paid respect to the Ambassador and his wife with scented water and in return received a blessing. On this opportunity, Ambassador ChirachaiPunkrasin explained the meaning of Songkran Festival and wished the guests all the best for this Thai New Year.After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed a Thai buffet lunch, followed by traditional Thai games and water splashing.
