The Thai Ambassador’s Residence, one of the most stately houses in Yangon, has won the Historical and Architectural Conservation Award 2014 under the institutional buildings and public buildings category from the Association of Siamese Architect under Royal Patronage. The Residence is the first property of the Royal Thai Government situated outside Thailand to receive the Award.
The announcement was made at Architect 2014 and the opening ceremony of the exhibition, held on 1 May 2014, showcasing photos of all awarded buildings was graciously presided over by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The award winners will, at a later date, be granted an audience with HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for the award bestowing.
The Residence has been well conserved and recognized for its architectural and historical value as this over 100-year old Tudor-styled mansion was purchased by the Royal Thai Government in 1948, the year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Myanmar.
The Royal Embassy takes great pride and honor for being granted this prestigious award as this signifies the stewardship of all the Ambassadors and Embassy’s officials in the conservation and preservation of the cultural heritage which is the property of the Royal Thai Government.
