Ambassador of Thailand to Sweden presided over the opening ceremony of the Songkran Festival organized by Santhiniwas Temple

On 26 April 2014, H.E. Mr. Somchai Charanasomboon, Ambassador of Thailand to Sweden, along with staff members of the Royal Thai Embassy and representatives from Team Thailand in Sweden, attended the Songkran Festival at Santhiniwas Temple.
On this occasion, H.E. Ambassador Somchai presided over the opening ceremony of the Songkran Festival. In his opening remarks, H.E. Ambassador Somchai praised Santhiniwas Temple and the Thai community in Sweden for conserving and promoting the Songkran tradition in Sweden and wished them a Happy Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year’s Day.
There were various activities at the Festival such as the pouring of water over the Buddha statue and asking for blessing, the offering of robes to the Buddhist monks, the building of sand pagodas, Thai cultural and musical performances, a Junior Miss Songkran Contest, delicious Thai food, Thai souvenirs and lucky draws. The Festival was enjoyed by about 1,000 participants.
