On 19 April 2014, Ms. Boosara Kanchanalai, Deputy Consul-General, and officials from The Royal Thai Consulate-General, Guangzhou, represented The Consulate-General in attending the Guangzhou Family Tree Planting and Spring Outing event at Longju Village, Chonghua District in the city of Guangzhou. The Consulate-General received an invitation to the event from the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangzhou Municipal Government (FAO).
This event was co-organized by Guangzhou Women’s Association, with a network of Chonghua Women’s Associaton, and Guangzhou Forestry and Agrciulture Bureau. The event was attended by foreign guests, including the Consul-General of the United Kingdom and Iran, the Deputy Consul-General of Thailand, representatives from the Consulate-General of Singapore, Japan, Russia, and Colombia, as well as representatives from various offices of the Chinese side, including Mr. Zhu Xiaoyi, Deputy Director-General of the FAO, along with people in the village.
Ms. Su Pei, Chairman of the Guangzhou Women’s Association, delivered an opening remark for the event. And then, all the event attendants were asked to jointly plant trees together and also named the tree they had planted. The representatives from the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Guangzhou, planted a tree and named it “Zongheng Taihe”, which meant “Diplomacy and Peace”.
Afterwards, the event attendants paid a visit to sights in Longju village including:
- Educational and Recreational Center for the Children of the Village, which is the first center of its kind in China. The center houses books, computers, and educational materials for children in the village. The center often also has volunteer teachers.
- Dairy Farm of the Village, which is one of the projects from the FAO to fight poverty and create more jobs for the village.
- Public Recreational Center of the Village, which includes children playground, basketball court, and international-standard badminton court.
