On 8 August 2017, the Royal Thai Embassy in Argentina, together with other ASEAN Embassies in Argentina namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam, celebrated the 47th Anniversary of ASEAN at the Manuel Belgrano Auditorium, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Argentina.
Ms. Maria Carolina Perez Colman, Under-secretary for Foreign Relations, and Ms. Nurmala Kartini Pandjaitan Sjahrir, Indonesian Ambassador to Argentina, represented the Argentine government and ASEAN Embassies respectively delivered remarks emphasizing the history of ASEAN, potential in economic, social, and security development of ASEAN, way forward for ASEAN community, as well as the enhancement of ASEAN – Argentina cooperation.
During the event, there was also an award ceremony for the ASEAN Essay Contest, which has been held for two consecutive years with an aim to promote the knowledge and study of ASEAN in Argentina targeting on university students. This time, the contest was categorized into two levels—undergraduate students and postgraduate scholars. For undergraduate level, the first winner is Ms. Antonella Rita Forni from National University of Rosario receiving the prize of 200 U.S. dollars and the second winner is Mr. Leonardo Andres Pizarro from University of the 21st Century receiving the prize of 150 U.S. dollars. For postgraduate level, the first winner is Mr. Lucas Ignacio Pavez Rosales from National University of La Plata receiving the prize of 300 U.S. dollars and the second winner is Mr. Emiliano Nicolas Barbuto from University Torcuato Di Tella receiving the prize of 250 U.S. dollars.
The ceremony was followed by cultural performances from ASEAN Embassies and reception which was well attended by 150 diplomatic corps, guests from diplomatic and foreign relations network, friends of ASEAN Embassies, ASEAN communities, as well as media. ASEAN food and desserts were also introduced to the guests during the reception.
