The Royal Thai Embassy, Colombo, together with Sri Lankan people and Thai citizens in Sri Lanka organized a number of events in Sri Lanka to celebrate the 87th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, on 5 December 2014, as follows
1. Religious Ceremony The Sri Lanka- Thailand Society invited H.E. Mr. Nopporn Adchariyavanich, Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka, to preside over the praying ceremony for His Majesty the King at Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo, on 4 December 2014
2. National Day Reception The Royal Thai Embassy, Colombo hosted a reception to celebrate His Majesty’s 87th Birthday Anniversary and National Day of Thailand at the Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo. The function was graced by Honourable Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Water Supply and Drainage and Chief Government Whip.
To pay tribute to His Majesty the King, the Embassy showed a documentary about the works of His Majesty to 300 guests which included high-ranking officials from Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry, diplomatic corps in Colombo, Sri Lankan distinguished guests and Thai citizens in Sri Lanka. In addition, the Embassy invited students from Gunananda Vidyalaya School, Colombo, which was established by Prince Prisdang of Thailand, to perform Sri Lankan-Thai dances on stage.
3. Articles and Supplement in Newspapers on His Majesty the King The Royal Thai Embassy, Colombo and the private sectors in Sri Lanka jointly published the articles and supplements on His Majesty the King in 3 English newspapers in Sri Lanka : the Daily News, the Daily Mirror and the Island to honour the works and the achievements of His Majesty the King in developing Thailand.
