Deputy Permanent Secretary meets United Nations Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Country Team

On 14 May 2015, Mr. Noppadon Theppitak , Deputy Permanent Secretary, had a bilateral discussion with Mr. Luc Stevens, UN Resident Coordinator and 9 other members of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT), on the occasion of the introductory call by UNCT.  The meeting discussed future partnership between the Royal Thai Government and the United Nations, Sustainable Development Goals, public health and migration management cooperation.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary reaffirmed the Royal Thai Government’s strong commitment to enhance Thailand-UN partnership and strengthen cooperation mechanism.  The UN side welcomed and expressed its readiness to support the Royal Thai Government’s initiative to host the Special Meeting on Irregular Migration in the Indian Ocean on 29 May 2015. UNCT also recognized Thailand’s success on the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) policy as a model that could be shared with the international community.

Apart from the UN Resident Coordinator, other members of UNCT comprised Ms. Tatiana Shoumilina, Country Director, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), Mr. Martin Hart-Hansen, Deputy Resident Representative, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ms. Mireille Girard, Representative in Thailand, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Ms. Valerie Taton, Officer-in-Charge, The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Mr. Edward Clarence-Smith, Representative and Director, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Regional Office in Thailand, and Mr. Jeffrey Labovitz, Chief of Mission, International Organization of Migration (IOM).
