On 28 December 2015, H.E. Mr. Tugsbilguun Tumurkhuleg, Ambassador of Mongolia to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Apichart Chinwanno, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of assuming his duty in Thailand.
The Permanent Secretary welcomed Ambassador Tugsilguun to Thailand and expressed Thailand’s commitment to further strengthen the Thai – Mongolian relations at the bilateral and multilateral levels. Both sides reaffirmed their desire to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and investment. In order to build confidence among Thai investors, both sides agreed to expedite the conclusion of several agreements including the Agreement for the Promotion and Protection of Investments, the Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation, and the Agreement on the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income.
Both sides concurred that the Consultative Body on Bilateral Cooperation is an important bilateral mechanism and therefore agreed to hold the first meeting in 2016. The meeting will be co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to support each other in various multilateral frameworks. Thailand expressed full support for Mongolia as host of the 11th ASEM Summit (ASEM 11) in Ulaanbaatar on 15 – 16 July 2016. On this occasion, Ambassador Tugsbilguun also presented an invitation letter from the President of Mongolia to General Prayut Chan-o-cha,Prime Minister of Thailand, to attend the ASEM 11 meeting in Mongolia.
