         On 12 February 2016, H.E. Mrs. Lourdes Puma Puma, Ambassador of Republic of Ecuador to Thailand (with residence in Kuala Lumpur), paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, upon the conclusion of her duty.

         The Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs took note of the cordial relationship between Thailand and Ecuador. He also stressed the importance Thailand attachs to Latin America and its readiness to promote more cooperation with Ecuador. To this end, a group of Thai public and private sectors led by the Director-General of the Department  of American and South Pacific Affairs will be visiting Ecuador in April 2016 with the objective of enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation of the two countries.

         The Ambassador expressed her appreciation for the support that the Royal Thai Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs rendered to her and the Embassy of the Republic of Ecuador in Kuala Lumpur during her tenure, and reiterated Ecuador’s commitment to working closely with Thailand
for the concrete cooperation which would mutually benefit the two sides.

         During the meeting, both sides also discussed the ongoing bilateral and multilateral cooperation including the frameworks of the United Nations, the WTO and the G77, of which Thailand currently holds the Chairmanship in New York for 2016. The Ambassador affirmed Ecuador’s willingness in working alongside Thailand towards the achievement of sustainable development among developing countries.
